Summary A method (CRRS) that combines S2 and crossbred family selection in full-sib reciprocal recurrent selection (FSRRS) is proposed. The method requires four generations per cycle in single-eared maize populations. Selection is based on performance of S2 and full-sib families by applying selection index theory. Equations to estimate the coefficients included in the index are given. These estimates are functions of the genetic and phenotypic variances and covariances among and between the two kinds of families. ObjectiveApproximately one third of patients who have suffered a stroke develop spasticity. Since clinical observations that spasticity in the elderly population is lower after stroke, and disagreement about risk factors between different authors, an analysis is performed on the variables that influence the development of spasticity.The objective of the study is to determine the how many factors influence spasticity outcome, and the prevalence of spasticity in patients who have suffered a stroke and require intensive rehabilitation treatment.MethodA retrospective assessment was carried out on a total of 554 patients from two neurorehabilitation centres. A record was made of sociodemographic data, aetiology, type and location of stroke, motor and sensory deficits, language and swallowing impairment, incontinence, cognitive and mood state. Spasticity levels at admission and at the third month were studied in 462 patients using the Ashworth scale. Multivariate regression analyses were used to assess the risk factors for spasticity present at the third month after stroke.ResultsThe mean age of the patients was 67.3 years, of which 67.1% were men, and with ischemic aetiology in 76.5%. On admission 31.4% of patients had spasticity, and this increased to 54.8% at the 3rd month. The absolute risk factor for spasticity was motor index (OR 1.04; 95% CI 1.03-1.05). When this factor was omitted, the variables with predictive ability were: age less than 75 years (OR 0.52; 95% CI 0.30-0.90), sensory impairment (OR 0.66; 95% CI 0.37-1.20), and lower Barthel index score (OR 1.02; 95% CI 1.01-1.03). There was no significant relationship for gender, physiopathological mechanism (ischaemic/haemorrhagic), stroke location, aphasia, or cognitive impairment.ConclusionThe prevalence of spasticity in stroke at third month of follow-up was 54.8%. Motor index is the independent predictor of spasticity. Patients younger than 75 years old, with sensory impairment and low Barthel index score are more likely to develop spasticity. 相似文献

The ‘socially valuable knowledge’ (SVK) principle has been widely acknowledged as one of the most important guiding principles for biomedical research involving human subjects. The principle states that the potential of producing socially valuable knowledge is a necessary requirement, although not sufficient, for the ethical conduct of research projects. This is due to the assumption that the social value of knowledge avoids exploitation of research subjects and justifies the use of health resources. However, more recently, several authors have started interrogating the validity of SVK in research and offered various lines of argument against the SVK principle as a necessary constraint to research. In this article, I will reconstruct the main arguments of this discussion between defenders and debunkers of the SVK principle and offer a third way to consider the social value of knowledge in research studies. I will argue that the social value of knowledge can be supported by an independent justification. This justification of the SVK principle addresses the rationality and common interest of researchers. Thus, I will introduce the SVK principle as a safeguarding principle for public trust based on a conceptual framework by Alex John London. My approach justifies keeping the principle as a precautionary and rational requirement for human health research that all rational stakeholders can agree upon. 相似文献

The kinetic properties of rat liver nuclear lysozyme, earlier purified to homogeneity in our laboratory, have been studied.
The enzyme was found to be maximally active in the pH range 4.2 to 5.4 in 0.02 M buffer. Its Km was found to be 333 mg/litre.
It was heat sensitive even in the acidic pH range. The enzyme exhibited tissue specific differences when compared with the

We sampled macroinvertebrates at 75 locations in the Mondego river catchment, Central Portugal, and developed a predictive
model for water quality assessment of this basin, based on the Reference Condition Approach. Sampling was done from June to
September 2001. Fifty-five sites were identified as “Reference sites” and 20 sites were used as “Test sites” to test the model.
At each site we also measured 40 habitat variables to characterize water physics and chemistry, habitat type, land use, stream
hydrology and geographic location. Macroinvertebrates were generally identified to species or genus level; a total of 207
taxa were found. By Unweighted Pair Group Method with Arithmetic mean (UPGMA) clustering and analysis of species contribution
to similarities percentage (SIMPER), two groups of reference sites were established. Using Discriminant Analysis (stepwise
forward), four variables correctly predicted 78% of the reference sites to the appropriate group: stream order, pool quality,
substrate quality and current velocity. Test sites’ environmental quality was established from their relative distance to
reference sites, in MDS ordination space, using a series of bands (BEAST methodology). The model performed well at upstream
sites, but at downstream sites it was compromised by the lack of reference sites. As with the English RIVPACS predictive model,
the Mondego model should be continually improved with the addition of new reference sites. The adaptation of the Mondego model
methodology to the Water Framework Directive is possible and would consist mainly of the integration of the WFD typology and
increasing the number of ellipses that define quality bands.

This paper focuses on the analysis and evaluation of resilience anchored in an economic perspective. Resilience, as well as
most of the benefits provided by ecosystems, is not priced on current markets. However, this does not mean that resilience
is of no value for humans. On the contrary, the interest of using an economic perspective, and the respective scientific methodology,
will be put forward in terms of resilience relevance for ecosystem functioning, and its impact on human welfare. The economic
perspective is anchored in an anthropocentric analysis evaluating resilience in terms of provision of natural capital benefits.
These in turn are interpreted as insurance against the risk of ecosystem malfunctioning and the consequent interruption of
the provision of goods and services to humans. For this analysis, we make use of a conceptual framework that identifies and
describes the different value components of resilience. Finally, we present an illustration that discusses the economic analysis
of resilience benefits in the context of the Venice Lagoon. 相似文献

退耕还林还草工程对陕北地区生态系统服务价值时空演变的影响 总被引:5,自引:0,他引:5
基于陕北地区1990、2000、2015年土地利用数据,运用单位面积生态系统价值当量因子法、格网法、探索性空间数据法(ESDA),分析了退耕还林还草工程实施前后生态系统服务价值(ESV)的空间分布和演化规律,探讨了退耕还林还草工程对ESV的影响。结果表明:(1)陕北地区退耕还林还草工程实施效果显著,工程实施后共有297066.15 hm2耕地转化为林地和草地,林草覆盖率由57.33%增长至60.50%。(2)退耕还林还草工程使得陕北地区ESV得到了显著提升。25年间陕北地区ESV共增加了32.82亿元,ESV在工程实施后比工程实施前多增加了5.93亿元,增长主要源于退耕引起林地和草地面积的增加。(3)ESV空间分布上呈显著的“南高北低”分布格局,并表现出正向的集聚性和依存性,ESV热点区和冷点区集聚效果明显,热点区集聚与林地、草地的空间分布相吻合,冷点区集聚与未利用地、耕地和建设用地的空间分布相吻合。(4)受退耕还林还草工程影响,陕北地区中部中等等级和次高ESV分布区域逐渐增大、次热点区空间集聚性逐渐增强,北部次低等级和低等级ESV分布区域逐渐减少、冷点区空间集聚性逐渐减弱。整体而言,陕北地区土地利用类型转移和ESV的增减变化与推行退耕还林还草工程在时间上相呼应、在空间上相匹配,退耕还林还草工程实施使得陕北地区生态环境得到了有效改善,ESV得到了显著提升。 相似文献

Soil properties are thought to affect annual plant productivity in rangelands, and thus soil variables that are consistently correlated with plant biomass may be general indicators of rangeland health. Here we measured several soil properties (e.g. aggregate stability, organic carbon, total nitrogen) and tested each as a would-be predictor of local variation in peak aboveground grassland biomass. Individual properties explained a slight (≤10%) amount of variation in plant biomass. Plant biomass was mainly (negatively) associated with two soil properties, subsurface soil carbonate concentration and the stability of soil macroaggregates near the soil surface. Less important predictive variables included: elevation, plant community composition, surface soil organic carbon, and soil carbon:nitrogen. Plot-to-plot variation in plant biomass is seemingly difficult to predict based on soil properties, including popular indicators of soil and rangeland health and even root biomass. While protection of soil is critical to overall rangeland ecosystem function, our findings suggest that the relationship between soil properties and plant biomass in natural grasslands is complex. Thus, there may not be one or even several soil properties that consistently predict appreciable variation in peak grassland biomass, especially variation within an ecosystem independent of precipitation. 相似文献
